The morning breeze was bringing in the smell of early spring flowers and the last sharp bite of frost. He climbed out of his bed and then walked over to his bedroom window. Shiro looked at the ceiling and moved his finger the string moved in equal fashion. Shiro just stared at the string of fate looping around his right hand's finger it looped and looped and then pointed up to the sky. In contrast, the band looping around his ring finger seemed innocent enough.

But all that five-year-old Shiro could remember, when he woke up in cold sweat just as the sun was breaking over the horizon, was the faint taste of terror at the back of his throat. His teacher had explained that you dreamt of your soulmate when the band formed. Takashi Shirogane even tried the soothing cream his grandfather would always use after a mosquito bite to no avail.
